Recently I bought a Sony Bravia 3d tv from Best Buy and I found out quickly how hard it is to find 3D content. A week later I made it back to Best Buy and I bought my first 3d movie. Imax Under the Sea. Overall I thought it was an enjoyable experience. The video is 41 minutes long and it is full of content. This film focuses on The Great Barrier Reef south of Australia and the sea life that calls the reef home. The 3D looks great pulling you deeper into the experience. Imax takes you on an adventure showing all of the many creatures and coral in the sea. Jim Carrey narrates throughout and does an exceptional job. He keeps the commentary understated and remains true to the Imax experience. Until the final 10 minutes it is a wonderful journey under the sea when all of a sudden it changes to a message about saving the planet. Here is where I feel this film veers away from the normal Imax formula. It becomes a commentary on global warming and ocean acidification. I felt it to be forced and unnecessary for a simple sea life film. I would recommend this movie to show off the 3d I just wish there wasn’t a global undertone.
